Budget expected 2.3 per cent tax hike

December 13th, 2010

Meeting of the City’s Budget Committee was held and councillors and staff discussed about the anticipated 2011 increase in budget and they figured out about $77 on a home assessed at $350,000.

The City’s director of finance, Patricia Elliott-Spencer told to the Committee members that a 2.24 per cent tax hike will be sufficient as infrastructure levy was not part of last budget.

Homeowners were expecting a 2.3 per cent increase on the City of Mississauga’s portion of their property tax bill next year.

Staff identified different reasons for the hike in tax such as increasing costs for fuel and material, development charges, recreational user fees, transit and Rising labor costs.

A public budget meeting will be arranged at the Living Arts Centre then it will be sent to city council.
